Work Area
Internal Communication, E-Learning & AI Automation
Project Scope
Europe-wide intranet and custom LMS, including AI-powered video translation
Initial Situation
At the European level, RE/MAX was working with fragmented, isolated solutions: each country operated its own small intranet platforms or used isolated learning management systems (LMS) such as Moodle. A centralized, cross-border solution was completely lacking, which hindered international collaboration among agents. At the same time, translating training videos and courses for the largest markets (including French, Turkish, Spanish, and Portuguese) took an enormous amount of time and incurred high costs.
Objective
- Harmonization: Replacing siloed solutions with a centralized, unified, and innovative intranet and LMS system for all European countries.
- Increased translation efficiency: Fully automated, AI-generated translation of training materials to drastically reduce time and costs.
- Networking & business expansion: Promoting cross-border collaboration to handle international business (e.g., real estate purchases abroad) more efficiently.
Success Factors
- The courage to develop our own solution: The quick decision to reject an inflexible standard Moodle platform and opt for a modern, in-house solution was what made deep AI automation possible in the first place.
- Hybrid AI approach: The combination of state-of-the-art AI (voice and lip-sync) and human verification (human-in-the-loop) ensures both speed and technical accuracy.
- Focus on collaboration: The system was designed not merely as a repository for information, but as an active tool for facilitating cross-border sales.
Description of the Case Study
1. Collaborative Multilingual Intranet
The first step involved implementing a standardized, multilingual intranet system. The focus here was strongly on communication: for the first time, brokers and agents from different countries were able to collaborate, engage in discussions, and share best practices for property sales.
2. Custom LMS Development
The original plan was to use open-source solutions (such as Moodle). However, after a two-month evaluation, this approach was rejected as being too unintuitive and not innovative enough. Instead, a completely new, generic LMS was developed in just two months using state-of-the-art technologies. This ensured that all industry standards were met while also enabling deep, seamless AI integration.
3. AI-powered lip-sync translation
The new LMS has been equipped with an AI pipeline for automated translations:
- First, course videos were automatically subtitled using speech transcription.
- The next step involved a full audio translation, including synchronization of lip movements (lip-sync) with the respective target language.
- Human-in-the-loop: To ensure the highest quality, a review process was integrated. Country managers have three days to review and adjust the AI-generated translations before the final course is rendered and published in all formats at the click of a button.
Benefits
- Cross-border asset management: Real estate agents can now directly and seamlessly refer clients looking for properties abroad to colleagues in the target market and easily split commissions.
- Cost reduction: The cost of translating training courses has been reduced to less than one-third of the original expenses.
- Increased productivity: The time-to-market for translated courses has been reduced to less than one-tenth. A complete course is now available in multiple languages simultaneously within three days.
- Strengthening the network: Independent agents and employees spread across Europe are growing significantly closer together through the central platform.
Opportunities
- A significant competitive advantage through seamless international collaboration
- Scalability: Can be expanded to include new languages and features at any time
- Greater agent retention through modern tools
Risks
- User Acceptance Among Independent Franchisees
- Development Risk: Building an In-House LMS in Just Two Months
- AI Teething Problems with Pronunciation and Accents
In short:
By replacing inefficient siloed systems with a modern, in-house developed intranet and an AI-powered LMS, RE/MAX has revolutionized cross-border collaboration in Europe. Fully automated video translations, including lip-syncing, reduce costs and turnaround time to a fraction of what they used to be, while the network enables agents to share property listings across borders and expand their business. Today, the platform is a key competitive advantage for the franchise network.
